Police charge man after firearm and explosives seized - Eastern Beaches

A man will face court today charged after a firearm and explosives were seized in Sydney's south east yesterday.

About 11am (Sunday 29 August 2021), officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended a house in Lassiter Avenue, Chifley, after reports of a domestic-related incident.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Mascot Police Station.

Following inquiries, officers returned to the house about 2pm and conducted a search, seizing a black pistol and a bag containing rounds of ammunition.

During the search, police located a suspicious case with wires protruding. All occupants and police were evacuated, and a perimeter was established.

Specialist police from the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit and Raptor Squad attended the home to assist.

The suitcase was examined and found to contain detonators and explosives. Specialist police separated the items and declared them safe.

A crime scene was established, where police seized further items including clothing and OMCG paraphernalia.

All items seized will undergo forensic examination.

The man was charged with three counts of attempt stalk/intimidate intend fear of harm (DV), acquire prohibited firearm – subject prohibition order, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, possess unregistered firearm – prohibited firearm, not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm, acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and possess supply or make explosive for unlawful purpose.

He was refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court today (Monday 30 August 2021).
