Police Charge Man After Gym Fire In Merrylands

A man has been charged following an alleged gym and car fire in Sydney's west.

About 2am on Monday 23 June 2025, emergency services were called to a gym on Pitt Street, Merrylands, following reports of a fire.

The fire was extinguished after the sprinkler system activated; and the facility was partially damaged.

There have been no injuries reported at this time.

Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

About 3.20am, emergency services were called to Braidwood Drive, Prestons, following reports of a car fire.

The fire was extinguished and police established a crime scene.

About 7.10am yesterday (Tuesday 24 February 2026), officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attended a home on Frampton Street, Lidcombe, where a 19-year-old man was arrested.

He was taken to Auburn Police Station and was charged with damage property by fire/explosive more than $15,000.

The man was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 24 February 2026, where he was formally refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday 3 March 2026.
