A man will appear in court today charged following an investigation into a crash in Sydney's west last month.
About 3.30am on Friday 6 August 2021, emergency services were called to the Cumberland Highway near Brenan Street, Smithfield, following reports of a single-vehicle crash.
Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command attended and found a Toyota Yaris had crashed into a barrier and flipped onto its roof.
Police were told the driver of the Toyota, a 36-year-old man, attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was arrested a short distance away.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
The passenger of the car, a 39-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition.
A crime scene was established and examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit, who commenced an investigation.
Police searched the vehicle and located illicit drugs and $1205 in cash, which were seized and will undergo forensic examination.
Following inquiries, officers from Liverpool Police Area Command's Proactive Crime Team arrested a 36-year-old man at an address on Tindall Avenue, Liverpool, about 6.20pm yesterday (Thursday 16 September 2021).
He was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, proceed through red traffic light, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, fail to stop and assist impact causing grievous bodily harm, and fail to comply requirement public health order - COVID-19
The man was refused bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court today (Friday 17 September 2021).
