Police charge man after investigation into fatal crash - Sylvania

A man has been charged following an investigation into a fatal two-vehicle crash at Sylvania earlier this year.

About 11.10am on Sunday 27 March 2022, emergency services were called to the Princes Highway near Birdwood Street, Sylvania, following reports a Toyota Corolla and Honda HR-V had collided in the southbound lanes.

The passenger of the Toyota – a 40-year-old woman – was freed from the vehicle and treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, died at the scene.

The Toyota driver, a 33-year-old man, and the Honda driver, a-17-year-old girl, were both treated at the scene and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended and with the assistance of specialist officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit, commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following extensive investigations, the 33-year-old man was given a Future Court Attendance Notice today (Thursday 2 June 2022) charged with negligent driving (occasioning death), not give particulars to police and drive vehicle with illicit drug present in blood.

The Kingsgrove man will appear at Sutherland Local Court on Thursday 7 July 2022.
