Police charge man after investigation into deliberately-lit fire at Bankstown

A man has been charged following investigations into an alleged deliberately-lit house fire in Bankstown last week.

About 1.45am on Friday 23 September 2022, emergency services were called to Ogmore Court following reports the garage of a home was on fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze; however, the home and garage were severely damaged.

Two occupants – a 19-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy – managed to leave the house and were not injured.

Strike Force Portelli was formed by officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command to investigate the fire, which is alleged to have been deliberately lit.

Following inquiries, a 69-year-old man was arrested at a home on Hillard Street in Wiley Park about 6.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 29 September 2022).

The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with damage/destroy property with intent to endanger life.

He was bail refused and is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 29 September).
