A man has been charged following investigations into a unit fire at Chippendale last night.
About 11.45pm (Sunday 16 February 2020), officers from South Sydney Police Area Command attended a unit on Dangar Place, Chippendale following reports of a fire.
On arrival, officers found the unit extensively damaged by fire.
During investigations, police were told a man was seen running from the unit, naked, and heading towards Dangar Place.
It's alleged the naked man approached a young woman and demanded her coat and shoes.
The woman handed over her coat and ran from the man, however, he gave chase and allegedly grabbed her from behind and punched her.
He allegedly attempted to stop a white vehicle on Myrtle Street, where he opened the car door and punched the driver before running away.
Investigating police became aware of the incidents and ran to assist; they located the man on Buckland Street and arrested him.
He was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for assessment and later taken to Mascot Police Station, where he was charged with damage property by fire and robbery.
The Chinese National was refused bail and will appear in Central Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 18 February 2020).
As investigations continue, police are appealing for the driver of the white vehicle to come forward. He had left the scene prior to the arrival of police.
