Police Charge Man After Moonee Ponds Stabbing

Moonee Valley Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a stabbing in Moonee Ponds yesterday afternoon.

It is alleged two male pedestrians were seen arguing before one of the men produced a knife and stabbed the other.

The victim, a 44-year-old Essendon man, suffered minor injuries to his neck and chest and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Passers-by and the victim restrained the alleged offender until police arrived a short time later.

The 55-year-old Fitzroy man was taken into custody and has since been charged with intentionally / recklessly cause serious injury and assault with a weapon.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
