Police charge man after necklace theft in Brunswick

Police have charged a man after he allegedly stole a necklace straight off a woman's neck in Brunswick last month.

It will be alleged the 50-year-old Brunswick man approached an older woman in a supermarket inside a shopping centre on Sydney Road and snatched the necklace about 10:30 am on Saturday 30 January.

The 84-year-old victim was not injured in the incident.

Investigators arrested the man yesterday and he has been charged with theft as well as a number of offences related to separate incidents including robbery, obtain property by deception, attempted robbery, assault with intent to rob, trespass and unlawful assault.

He was remanded to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 1 March.
