Police charge man after police pursuit at Dubbo

A man has been charged in relation to a police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in the state's Orana Region.

About 6pm yesterday (Monday 26 August 2019), police received reports a Landrover Freelander had been stolen from a home on the Castlereagh Highway at Ben Bullen, north of Lithgow.

At 7.34am today (Tuesday 27 August 2019), officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District attended a home on Corbett Street at Dubbo to speak with a man and woman wanted on unrelated matters.

The man, aged 19, and a woman, aged 25, fled the location in the stolen vehicle before they could be stopped by police.

A series of pursuits within the Dubbo township ensued and proceeded for 40 minutes, before being terminated for safety reasons.

A short time later, police saw the vehicle travelling in Kensington Avenue. It is alleged the car was driven at police, before being driven to the top-level car park at a shopping mall in Dubbo.

It is alleged the occupants ran from the car and were arrested after a short foot pursuit.

They were taken to Dubbo Police Station where the man was charged with break enter and steal, steal motor vehicle, police pursuit, use weapon to resist arrest, supply prohibited drug and breach of bail.

He was bail refused to appear before Dubbo Local Court today (Tuesday 27 August 2019).

The woman remains in custody pending charges.
