Police charge man after police pursuit; drugs seized - Koonawarra

Two men have been charged and drugs seized following a police pursuit in the Illawarra earlier today.

Shortly after 11am today (Tuesday 10 December 2019), police attempted to stop a White Subaru Impreza in Koonawarra for the purposes of a vehicle search.

When the driver failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

Following a brief pursuit, the Subaru pulled into a driveway on Wyndarra Way, Koonawarra and the male driver and female passenger fled from the vehicle.

The Subaru continued to roll down the driveway and into a fence, resulting in minor property damage.

Police allegedly followed the driver over a fence and landed in a cannabis crop.

The occupant of the house, a 41-year-old man, has been issued a future court attendance notice for cultivate prohibited plant and is due to face Port Kembla Local Court on 29 January 2020.

Approximately 14 cannabis plants were located and seized.

The driver, a 34-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with police pursuit, unlicensed driver – never held, affix false/misleading plates, use unregistered motor vehicle and use uninsured motor vehicle.

He was refused bail and is expected to face Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 11 December 2019).

The female passenger – aged 27 - was located a short time later and released pending further inquiries.

Inquiries are continuing.
