A man will face court today following a police pursuit that allegedly spanned almost 200km in the state's south.
About 6pm Friday (8 November 2019), officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command observed a blue Toyota Camry bearing Queensland plates allegedly traveling well above the speed limit on the Federal Highway near Collector.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the driver failed to comply, and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued northbound on the Hume Highway before being terminated due to safety reasons.
The vehicle continued to travel through Marulan, Sutton Forest and Robertson before police lost sight of the vehicle near Albion Park.
Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District, Traffic and Highway Patrol, NSWPF Dog Unit and PolAir commenced a land search in the Albion Park and Yellow Rock areas.
About 9.15pm the driver of the vehicle was arrested walking along Lakeview Road, Tongarra. The man's vehicle was located hidden in nearby bushland.
The 37-year-old man was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit, two counts of drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, enter inclosed land, carry cutting weapon upon apprehension, possess prohibited drug and deal with property proceeds of crime.
He was refused bail and is expected to re-appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Monday 11 November 2019).
