A man will face court today charged after an alleged police pursuit at Lake Macquarie.
About 7.20pm yesterday (Wednesday 12 November 2025), officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District were conducting proactive patrols of the Windale area when they sighted a Toyota Hilux allegedly bearing stolen number plates.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued through Mount Hutton, Windale, Belmont and Marks Point where it was terminated.
A short time later the vehicle was sighted on Caves Beach Road, Caves Beach, and the pursuit recommenced; however, it was terminated again when police lost sight of the vehicle.
The vehicle was subsequently located abandoned in Brigantine Place, Caves Beach. Inquiries reveal that the vehicle and number plates were allegedly stolen earlier from a home in Caves Beach.
About 11.15pm, police attended a residence in Alexander Avenue, Caves Beach, where they located a 31-year-old man. OC spray was deployed to effect the man's arrest.
He was taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with eight offences,
- Police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR
- Use class A vehicle displaying altered number-plate
- Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal <=$60000
- Steal motor vehicle
- Larceny, and
- Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Thursday 13 November 2025).
