Police Charge Man After Pursuit - Caringbah 28 June

A man has been charged after a pursuit and crash in Sydney's south early yesterday morning.

Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attempted to stop a ute on the Kingsway, Caringbah, about 1am Saturday (27 June 2026), after it allegedly performed a U-turn at traffic lights.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, police commenced a pursuit before the ute crashed and rolled onto its side a short time later.

The sole passenger – a 23-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital as a precaution.

The driver – a 24-year-old man – was trapped inside the vehicle until being freed by Fire and Rescue NSW.

He was treated by paramedics and taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition under police guard, where he also underwent mandatory testing.

The man, from Cronulla, was yesterday charged in a bedside court hearing with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, and make U-turn at intersection with traffic lights.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Thursday 13 August 2026.

The man has now been released from hospital; police await the test results.
