Police charge man after pursuit in Wellington

A man will face court today charged following a pursuit in the state's central west.

About 12.20pm yesterday (Thursday 30 November 2023), police were patrolling in the Wellington area when they observed a Toyota Camry allegedly travelling at an excessive speed on Thornton Street.

Police attempted to stop the Toyota; however, when it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

A short time later, the vehicle left the roadway before crashing through a fence and into a home.

The driver attempted to flee on foot before he was arrested. The man was uninjured and taken to Dubbo Police Station.

No occupants of the home were injured.

During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located an unauthorised pistol and prohibited drugs.

The 35-year-old man was charged with:

  • police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously,
  • never licensed person drive vehicle on road,
  • assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm,
  • possess unauthorised pistol,
  • possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm,
  • acquire pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order, and
  • possess prohibited drug (two counts).

The man was refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court today (Friday 1 December 2023).
