Police charge man after pursuit in Werribee

Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a pursuit in Werribee last night.

Officers spotted an alleged stolen Hyundai Elantra sedan travelling on Duncans Road and attempted to intercept it about 3.15pm before it drove away.

Later that evening, police responded to a '000' call for a suspicious loiter and located a man with the alleged stolen car parked on Duncans Road about 9.20pm.

It's alleged the man fled in the car and was pursued by police with assistance from the AirWing through Point Cook and Laverton.

Officers arrested the man after he allegedly abandoned the car and ran into the rear yard of a house on Duncans Road, Werribee.

Police allege the car was stolen in a carjacking incident on 5 June in Werribee.

A 22-year-old Wyndham Vale man was charged with carjacking, dangerous driving, reckless conduct endanger life, unlicenced driving, drug driving offences, drug possession, weapon offences, theft and unlawful assault.

He was also issued with a penalty notice for being outside the 10km radius under the CHO directions.

He was remanded overnight and will appear at the Werribee Magistrates' Court today.
