Police Charge Man After Pursuit Through Coonamble

A man has been charged following an alleged police pursuit in Coonamble on the weekend.

About 2.40am on Sunday 22 March 2026, officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District were conducting patrols in Coonamble when they allegedly observed a Suzuki sedan accelerate away.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however when the driver allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through the township and onto the Castlereagh Highway, with the driver allegedly reaching speeds of up to 110km/hr in a 50km/hr signposted area, before the vehicle came to a stop on Nash Street.

Police arrested the driver – a 31-year-old man – and took him to Coonamble Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

He appeared before Bail Division Court 4 on Sunday 22 March 2026, where he was formally refused bail to face Coonamble Local Court on Tuesday 14 April 2026.
