Police charge man after teenage girl assaulted - Tempe

Police have charged a man after allegedly approaching and assaulting a teenage girl at Tempe on the weekend.

About 2pm on Saturday (2 October 2021), a 13-year-old girl and her father attended Tempe Reserve on Holbeach Avenue, Tempe.

A short time later, the girl sat down on a bench when an unknown man approached her and began speaking to her, before allegedly assaulting her.

The girl's father and a number of witnesses approached the man and spoke to him, before he fled the scene.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command were called and commenced investigations.

Following inquiries, about 8.20pm the same day, police attended a home on Allan Street, Belmore, and arrested a 28-year-old man.

He was taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with common assault and not comply with noticed direction re s7/8/9 – COVID19.

The man appeared at the Downing Centre Local Court yesterday (Wednesday 6 October 2021), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at Central Local Court on Friday 22 October 2021.

Investigations are continuing.
