Police charge man after thefts - Operation Southbreak

A man has been charged following an investigation into thefts in the state's northeast yesterday.

In 2018, officers attached to Oxley Police District initiated Operation Southbreak to target high volume property crime in the south west Tamworth area.

On Sunday (1 august 2021), officers from Oxley Police District commenced investigations in relation to a theft at a home on Cole Road, Tamworth and a break and enter at a business on Marius Street, Tamworth.

Police will allege that a motor vehicle, cameras, speakers, mobile phones, Ipads and laptops were stolen.

Following enquiries, about 11am yesterday (Wednesday 4 August 2021) police arrested a 56-year-old man at a motel on Goonoo Goonoo Road, Tamworth.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with the following offences:

  • enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence
  • goods in personal custody suspected being stolen x 2
  • break and enter house and steal value
  • receive property-theft
  • steal property in dwelling-house
  • take and drive conveyance without consent of owner.

The man was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Thursday 5 August 2021).
