Police charge man after Tootgarook fatal

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have today charged a 21-year-old man following a fatal crash in Tootgarook on Friday 12 April.

The Rye man has been charged with one count of culpable driving causing death and two counts of negligently cause serious injury.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

The charges relate to a crash where a Mazda CX3 with five male occupants crashed into a tree at the intersection of Marshall and Field roads about 1.15am.

A 17-year-old passenger from McCrae died at the scene.

A 17-year-old from Capel Sound remains in hospital in a critical condition.

A 17-year-old from McCrae was taken to hospital in a serious condition however his condition has worsened and he is now in a critical condition.

A 17-year-old from Rosebud remains in hospital in a stable condition.
