Police charge man after weapons seized and police assaulted at Campbelltown

A man has been charged after being allegedly found in possession of a pistol and knife in Sydney's south-west yesterday.

About 7.20pm (Thursday 27 February 2020), officers attached to Campbelltown Police Area Command were conducting a proactive crime operation on Broughton Street, Campbelltown.

Police spoke with a 30-year-old man and following enquiries conducted a search.

They allegedly located a pistol and a knife inside a bag he was carrying.

The man was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he allegedly became violent towards officers. After a short struggle, he was restrained.

The man was charged with possession of an unauthorised pistol, custody of a knife in a public place and three counts of assault police.

He was refused bail and will appear before Campbelltown Local Court today (Friday 28 February 2020).
