Police Charge Man And Woman After Pursuit At Moree

A man and woman will face court today charged after a pursuit in the states north overnight.

About 7.40pm (Sunday 19 October 2025), officers attached to New England Police District attempted to stop an allegedly stolen car on James Street, Moree.

The vehicle allegedly failed to stop; however, police lost sight of the vehicle which continued onto a dirt track.

About 9.20pm police observed the vehicle travelling north along Tycannah Street, Moree.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when it allegedly failed to stop a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle continued through local streets of Moree before allegedly striking and killing a dog on Tallowwood Place, Moree, and continuing.

The pursuit continued east towards Pallamallawa before it was terminated due to safety concerns.

Police will allege a number of items were thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit which were seized for forensic examination.

About 10.10pm the vehicle was sighted on Pallamallawa Road where police successfully deployed road spikes.

The vehicle continued towards Moree before stopping on Jones Street after hitting a fence.

The driver – a 23-year-old woman – was arrested at the scene.

The passenger – a 25-year-old man – allegedly ran from the vehicle and was arrested a short distance away in scrubland.

They were taken to Moree Police Station where the woman was charged with steal motor vehicle, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, driver of vehicle injuring animal fail to alleviate pain, possess prohibited drug and unlawfully possess thing resembles number plate.

The man was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, possess prohibited drug and custody of a knife in public place.

They were refused bail and will appear before Bail Division Court 5 today (Monday 20 October 2025).
