Police charge man found with firearms

Police have charged a man after he was allegedly found with a firearm in Keilor Downs on Friday.

Keilor Downs police were called to Green Gully Reserve after reports a man was acting suspiciously about 1am.

With the help of the Dog Squad, officers located the man allegedly hiding amongst shrubs.

Police arrested the man and subsequently searched the area where they allegedly uncovered a backpack with a firearm.

Melton Crime Investigation Unit detectives then searched an address linked to the man and allegedly located a loaded firearm.

Police have charged the 42-year-old Sunshine North man with two counts of prohibited person possess a firearm, 2 x possess ammunition without a licence, commit an indicatable offence while on bail, 3 x use carriage service to harass and possess a traffickable quantity of unregistered firearms.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Sunshine Magistrates' Court on Friday 21 February.
