Police charge man over $2.1 million fraud in Sydney City PAC

A man has been charged over allegedly defrauding a business of more than $2 million over filming rights for a sporting tournament.

In July 2021, officers from Sydney City Police Area Command commenced an investigation following reports of an alleged fraudulent business deal over streaming rights for a sporting tournament.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives, with assistance from Riverstone Police Area Command and North-West Metropolitan Region officers, executed a search warrant in William Street, Riverstone, today (Friday 20 January 2023).

Several items found at the location, including electronic storage devices and documentation, were seized to undergo forensic examination.

A 29-year-old man was arrested at the property and taken to Blacktown Police Station.

He was charged with dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception and nine counts of use false document to obtain financial advantage.

Police will allege in court that the man produced fraudulent documents to secure $2.1 million in funding for a streaming service to place a bid for filming rights for a sporting tournament.

The man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Thursday 2 February 2023.
