Police charge man over aggravated break-in at Lake Illawarra

A man has been charged over an alleged aggravated break and enter in the Illawarra yesterday.

About 6am (Tuesday 13 July 2021), police will allege a man gained entry into a unit on Bent Street, Warrawong, via the kitchen window.

When inside, the man allegedly threatened a 68-year-old woman, who is known to him.

It will be alleged the man punched the woman in the head and stole her handbag, which contained cash and a mobile phone, before fleeing.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, about 9am the same day, officers attached to South East Region Enforcement Squad arrested a 53-year-old man at a unit on Greene Street, Warrawong.

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, and not comply with a noticed direction – COVID-19.

The Warrawong man was refused bail and appeared in Wollongong Local Court yesterday, where he was formally refused bail to reappear in the same court on Wednesday 8 September 2021.
