Police charge man over assault at Bankstown

A man will face court today charged over the alleged assault of three women at Bankstown.

Just before 3am (Thursday 4 January 2024), police were called to a hospital on Eldridge Street at Bankstown following reports a patient had been assaulted.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command attended and were told two women – aged 63 and 58 – were grabbed by a man before being assaulted.

The man, who was a patient in the hospital, then allegedly confronted and punched an 80-year-old woman.

It's further alleged the man then choked the woman and hit her head against the wall, causing her to lose consciousness. She remains in a critical condition.

The man was arrested and once medically cleared, was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, choke person intend to commit indictable offence, intentionally choke person with recklessness and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Friday 5 January 2024).
