Police charge man over assault with metal pole at Young

A man has been charged over an alleged assault in the Hume region today.

About 1.20am (Tuesday 12 October 2021), emergency services were called to a unit complex on Berthong Street, Young, after reports of an assault.

Police have been told two men – aged 63 and 34 – were involved in a verbal altercation.

The older man walked away, before the younger man followed him and allegedly threatened him and assaulted him with a metal pole.

The 63-year-old sustained a deep laceration to his hand, as well as bruising to his arm. He was taken to Young District Hospital for treatment.

Officers attached to The Hume Police District arrested the 34-year-old man at the scene.

He was taken to Young Police Station, where it will be alleged he intimidated and threatened a female constable.

The man from Young was charged with reckless wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, malicious damage, and intimidate police.

He appeared in Young Local Court today (Tuesday 12 October 2021), where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear in the same court on Friday 12 November 2021.
