Police charge man over child approach - South Coast

A man has been charged after a child was allegedly approached on the state's South Coast earlier this week.

About 5pm on Sunday 6 February 2021, a 10-year-old girl was busking at a shopping village in Vincentia, when she was allegedly approached by an unknown man.

Police have been told the man sat with the child and asked her for a hug repeatedly. It's further alleged he insisted on accompanying the child to her home as she tried to leave.

A woman that was known to the child intervened and ensured the child was able to leave safely.

The child rode home and police were notified. Officers from South Coast Police District commenced inquiries.

Following inquiries, a 58-year-old man was arrested at a home in Vincentia about 2pm yesterday (Wednesday 10 February 2021).

He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with common assault and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Nowra Local Court tomorrow (Friday 12 February 2021).
