Police charge man over firearms offence after 2017 Glendenning kidnapping investigation

A man has been charged with allegedly possessing an unregistered pistol following an investigation into an alleged kidnapping in Sydney's west in 2017.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Drug and Firearms Squad established Strike Force Moppity to investigate the kidnapping and assault of a man, then aged 30, at a unit on Owen Street, Glendenning, on Sunday 20 August 2017.

Following inquiries, officers executed crime scene and search warrants at the unit on Monday 21 August 2017.

During the search, they located 27 firearms in a vehicle and seized 24kg of methylamphetamine.

The firearms – including 21 handguns – were seized for forensic examination.

Two men – aged 37 and 30 – were charged in August 2018. They remain before the courts.

Following further investigations, Strike Force Moppity detectives, with the assistance of Strike Force Raptor Highway Patrol, arrested a 36-year-old man outside a home in Harrington Park about 9.30am today (Wednesday 17 April 2019).

Following the arrest, a Firearms Prohibition Order search was conducted at a Harrington Park home.

During the search, detectives located and seized $21,000 cash.

The Harrington Park man was charged with possess unregistered firearm- pistol.

He was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today.
