Police charge man over house fire at Bathurst

A man will appear in court tomorrow charged over a suspicious house fire at Bathurst today.

About 4.30am (Thursday 16 February 2023), emergency services responded to reports of a house fire on West Street, West Bathurst.

NSW Fire & Rescue attended and located the house ablaze. The fire was extinguished; however, the home was destroyed.

Officers attached to Chifley Police District attended and established a crime scene.

As part of inquiries, police were told a man had allegedly been seen setting the house alight before fleeing. He reportedly drove off, hitting three people on the street.

A 50-year-old woman was taken to Bathurst Hospital in a serious but stable condition while a second woman, aged 49 was also hospitalised in a stable condition.

Following inquiries, investigators arrested a 31-year-old man at a home in Kelso.

He was taken to Bathurst Police Station where he was charged with damage property by fire/explosive (DV), drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm

He was refused bail to appear at Bathurst Local Court tomorrow (Friday 17 February 2023).
