Police charge man over knife attack at Fairfield

A man will face court today charged after another man was allegedly attacked with a knife in Sydney's south west.

Just before 2am on Friday (27 December 2019), a 37-year-old man presented to Fairfield Police Station with serious injuries to his neck.

It will be alleged that the man was with friends near a shopping centre at The Crescent, Fairfield, before another man came up behind him and attacked him with a knife.

The 37-year-old man managed to fight him off before heading into the police station. He was then taken to Liverpool Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established and detectives from Fairfield City Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, detectives with assistance of the Tactical Operations Unit, arrested a 23-year-old man at a home in Fairfield about 11.15am yesterday (Saturday 28 December 2019).

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station, where he was charged with attempted murder.

The man was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Sunday 29 December 2019).
