Police Charge Man Over Online Threats - Balmain

Police have charged a man over allegedly leaving threatening comments on an online platform in Sydney's inner west today.

In March 2026, officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command, with the assistance from officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command and Australian Federal Police (AFP), commenced an investigation following reports of several threatening comments posted on an online video sharing platform.

Police will allege the comments were posted between Saturday 28 February 2026 and Tuesday 3 March 2026.

Following inquiries, about 11am today (Friday 13 March 2026), detectives from Leichhardt Police Area Command, with the assistance from Central Metropolitan Region, arrested a 61-year-old man at a home in Balmain.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with publicly incite hatred on grounds of race causing fear and use carriage service to menace/harass/offend.

He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 7 tomorrow (Saturday 14 March 2026).
