Police charge man over sexual act - Figtree

A man will re-appear in court next month after being charged over an alleged sexual act on the South Coast over the weekend.

About 1.30pm on Saturday (16 October 2021), the 46-year-old man allegedly approached a teenage girl who was walking on a footpath along Oleander Avenue, Figtree, and carried out a sexual act in front of her.

Police have been told the man was confronted by a member of the public before leaving the scene.

The girl also left the scene before officers from Wollongong Police District arrived on scene.

Following inquiries, police attended an address on Nebo drive, Figtree and located the man.

He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with carry out sexual act with another without consent, and behave in offensive manner in/near public place.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Wollongong Local Court yesterday (Sunday 17 October 2021), where he was granted strict conditional bail to re-appear at the same court on Tuesday 30 November 2021.

Investigations are continuing into the incident.
