Police Charge Man Over Sexual Act Offences At Newcastle

A man has been charged following an investigation into alleged sexual and exposure offences in the Newcastle area.

On Friday 27 June 2025, police commenced an investigation after a man allegedly exposed himself in Hamilton South and committed a sexual act near a woman not known to him.

Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 41-year-old man on High Street, Maitland, about 11.45pm on Sunday 29 June 2025.

He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with wilful and obscene exposure in public place, and enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.

He was granted conditional bail and appeared before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 10 July 2024. The matter remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries and reports of similar incidents in the Cooks Hill and Hamilton areas, police arrested the same man in Maitland earlier today (Thursday 31 July 2025).

At Maitland Police Station he was charged with a further 13 offences:

  • Wilful and obscene exposure in public place (four counts)
  • Carry out sexual act with another without consent (four counts)
  • Enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse (four counts), and
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Thursday 31 July 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 14 August 2025.
