Police charge man over sexual assault of teenage girl - Haymarket

A man will face court today charged after the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in Sydney's CBD this week.

Police have been told a 15-year-old girl was speaking to a man – not known to her – on Hay Street, Haymarket, about 7.30pm on Wednesday (1February 2023).

The man and teenage girl walked to a nearby carpark where she was allegedly sexually assaulted.

After he left, the girl contacted a friend who notified police.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command located the girl and commenced an investigation.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Sex Crimes Squad along with police across Central Metro Region worked together to identify and locate the man.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at Waterloo about 11.30pm last night (Thursday 2February 2023).

He was taken to Day Street Police Station and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault – victim under the age of 16 years, attempted aggravated sexual assault – victim under the age of 16 years and use intoxicating substance to commit an indictable offence.

Police will allege in court the man administered the teenager with an intoxicating substance before sexually assaulting her.

The man was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court today (Friday 3 February 2023).
