Police charge man over sexual assault of young girl - Southern Region

A man will re-appear in court today charged over the alleged sexual assault of a child in the state's Southern Region.

In November last year, police received reports that a young girl – then aged 14 – had been sexually assaulted by a man known to her.

The matter was referred to detectives at the State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad who commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquires, detectives arrested a 43-year-old man at a home at Blackheath about 7.30am on Wednesday 24 March 2021.

He was taken to Katoomba Police Station and charged with three counts of have sexual intercourse with child (between 14 and 16 years) and procure child for unlawful sexual activity.

Police will allege in court the man sexually assaulted the girl on multiple occasions between September and November 2020.

The Narrandera man appeared at Katoomba Local Court on Wednesday 24 March 2021, where he was formally bail refused to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Wednesday 19 May 2021).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
