Police charge man over shooting at Wollongong 22 April

A man has been charged following an investigation into a shooting in Wollongong earlier this year.

About 3.15am on Thursday 25 February 2021, emergency services were called to a unit complex on Crown Street, Wollongong.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and found a 23-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to Wollongong Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers from Wollongong Police District attended and commenced inquiries.

Following extensive inquiries, a 29-year-old man was arrested at a corrections facility about 10am yesterday (Wednesday 21 April 2021).

He was charged with discharge firearm etc intend cause grievous bodily harm, possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, possess loaded firearm endanger life non-public place, and never licensed person drive vehicle on road.

The man remains bail refused and is due to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 22 April 2021).
