A man has been charged over the alleged wounding of a police officer at Narraweena earlier this year.
About 1pm on Friday (11 June 2021), a 29-year-old man entered a retail store in a shopping centre on Anderson Street, Chatswood, before allegedly stealing clothing items.
It's alleged the man left the store and when approached by a male staff member, he threatened him with a knife. The man fled and police were contacted.
In a separate incident, about 3.40pm the same day, emergency services were called to Raglan Street, Manly, following reports a man had been stabbed by an unknown man.
A 43-year-old man was treated at the scene before being taken to Northern Beaches Hospital. He underwent surgery and has since been discharged.
A short time later, about 5.20pm, officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command were called to a home on Warringah Road at Narraweena, where they were approached by a man armed with a knife.
The man allegedly threw a fire extinguisher at a male probationary constable, hitting him in the head, before stabbing him in the hand during the confrontation.
A shot was discharged by a second officer, with the man sustaining a wound to the leg. He was arrested and taken to hospital under police guard.
The two officers were also taken to hospital for treatment and have both since been released.
A critical incident investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following inquiries, detectives attended Royal North Shore Hospital on Monday 14 June 2021, where they spoke to a 29-year-old man who was charged with two offences. He remains before the courts.
As part of ongoing investigations, officers attended a correctional facility at Silverwater earlier today (Monday 30 August 2021) and arrested a man – now aged 30.
He was subsequently charged with attempt aggravated break and enter with intent – armed, wound police officer executing duty reckless as to actual bodily harm, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, wound person with intent to resist/prevent arrest and cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder.
The man was remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Manly Local Court on Thursday 14 October 2021.
