Police charge man with 21 offences including assault police - Lakemba

A man will face court today charged with assaulting police and 20 other offences following a police operation in Sydney's west yesterday.

About 2.20pm (Tuesday 3 August 2021), detectives attached to Campsie Police Area Command were attempting to locate a man wanted for fraud and driving offences, when they attended a unit on Taylor Street, Lakemba.

During a search of the unit, police located a 33-year-old man in a bedroom, hiding under a mattress inside the bed frame.

While attempting to perform an arrest, the man allegedly headbutted a male detective senior constable, before he assaulted a male senior constable.

The man was eventually arrested and taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with;

  • Assault officer in execution of duty
  • Resist officer in execution of duty
  • Use carriage service to menace/harass/offend
  • Harass police officer in execution of duty w/o abh
  • Enter inclosed land not presc premises w/o lawful excuse
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (6 counts)
  • Dishonestly obtain property by deception (10 counts)

The man was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Wednesday 1 September 2021).
