Police charge man with armed robbery at Wagga Wagga

A man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery in Wagga Wagga earlier today.

About 1.25am (Tuesday 12 January 2020), a man entered a service station on Edward Street, Wagga Wagga, and walked behind the counter.

The man allegedly threatened the service station attendant with a knife, before taking cash, cigarettes, a mobile phone, sunglasses and meat pies and fleeing on foot.

Officers from Riverina Police District were notified and attended a short time later.

Police observed a man running along Edward Street and pursued him on foot.

The 29-year-old man was arrested as he was attempting to climb over a brick wall into a unit complex on Fox Street. Cash, stolen property and a knife were located a short distance away and seized for examination.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon.

The man was refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Tuesday 12 January 2021).
