Police charge man with assault police at Kelso

A man will face court today charged with assault after coughing in an officer's face in the state's central tablelands.

About 8.10pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 January 2022), officers attached to Chifley Police District attended a home on Halfpenny Drive, Kelso, to speak to a man.

After speaking with the 39-year-old man he was placed under arrest and taken to the police vehicle before allegedly coughing in the face of a male constable.

The man was taken to Bathurst Police Station and charged with not comply noticed direction re spitting/coughing - COVID-19 and assault officer in execution of duty.

An outstanding warrant for a traffic related offence was also executed.

The man was refused bail to appear at Bathurst Local Court today (Thursday 20 January 2022).
