Police charge man with attempted murder at Hannam Vale

A man has been charged with attempted murder on the state's mid north coast.

About 5pm on Thursday 12 December 2019, a 53-year-old woman arrived at a home in Hannam Vale, where she was allegedly grabbed by a 52-year-old man known to her.

It's alleged the man attempted to strangle the woman before she broke free and ran to a nearby home and contacted police.

She was later taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital where she was treated for head and neck injuries.

Officers attached to Manning-Great Lakes Police District arrived a short time later and located the man with injuries to his neck.

He was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

On Saturday 14 December, he was discharged from hospital then arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station.

He was charged with attempt to strangle with intent to murder.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court yesterday (Sunday 15 December 2019), where he was again refused bail to appear at the same court today (Monday 16 December 2019).
