Police charge man with commercial drug supply after leaving country - Hay

A man will face court today charged with commercial drug supply after allegedly leaving the country before a court appearance last year.

About 7.40pm on Thursday 7 September 2017, police stopped a vehicle on the Sturt Highway near Hay.

During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located and seized cocaine and cash.

A man was arrested, and following extensive inquiries, charged with supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity).

The man was due to face Hay Local Court on 5 August 2019, but he allegedly failed to appear.

The man allegedly fled the jurisdiction and last month (Wednesday 5 February 2020) detectives were advised the man had re-entered Australia. He was arrested at Melbourne Airport by virtue of NSW Police Force and Victoria Police warrants.

The man has spent the last month in custody in Victoria for an unrelated matter.

Yesterday (Wednesday 4 March 2020), the 27-year-old man was released from Victorian custody. Detectives from Murrumbidgee Police District extradited the man to NSW later that day.

The 27-year-old man was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court today (Thursday 5 March 2020).
