A man has been charged with drug and other offences following a vehicle stop near Lithgow earlier today.
About 3.30am (Tuesday 21 July 20206), police stopped the driver of a white Subara wagon on the Great Western Highway at Bowenfels in relation to a breath test.
Inquiries by police showed the driver, a 26-year-old man, to be a disqualified from holding a driver's licence.
After being arrested by police, the man returned to his car to put on a pair of pants. The man allegedly grabbed a bum bag from the front seat and put it under his left arm.
The man then attempted to run from police before he was tackled to the ground. The man resisted arrest and wrestled with police in a nearby hedge.
Police were able to effect the arrest by deploying OC spray. The man was handcuffed and placed in a caged police vehicle.
Police later recovered two small resealable bags of white crystallised powder from the hedge.
A search of the man's vehicle revealed a large set of scales, a mobile phone and $675 Australian currency.
A search of the man's bum bag revealed five small plastic bags each containing approximately 28 grams of what police allege to be methylampetamine, and a further two smaller resealable bags containing a small amount of amphetamine.
The total weight of drugs seized was 150.89 grams.
The man was taken to Lithgow Police Station where he was charged with four offences – possess prohibited drug, supply prohibited drug, drive whilst disqualified and hinder or resist police.
The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 4 today (Tuesday 21 July 2026), where he was granted conditional bail, to appear at Lithgow Local Court on 6 August 2026.
