Police Charge Man With DV Offences At Maitland

A man has been charged following an investigation into alleged domestic violence offences near Maitland.

On Sunday 2 November 2025, police were called to a home in Rutherford following reports of a domestic violence-related incident.

At the scene, police located a woman who had allegedly been assaulted by a man known to her.

Police established that the man had allegedly broken into the woman's home, damaged her property, and threatened her on previous occasions.

Officers from the Hunter Domestic Violence High-Risk Offender Team (DVHROT) were notified and began inquiries to locate the man.

About 7.30am today (Thursday 6 November 2025), the DVHROT and Northern Region OSG Police attended a home in Rutherford.

A 21-year-old man was arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station.

There he was charged with eight offences,

• Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (three counts)

• Destroy or damage property less than or equal to $2000 (two counts)

• Common assault (two counts), and

• Aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today, where he was formally refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 14 January 2025.
