Police charge man with high-range drink driving after crashing into an off-duty officer's car at Randwick

A man has been charged with high-range drink driving after he allegedly crashed into the car of an off-duty police officer in Sydney's east overnight.

About 3.15am (Sunday 22 August 2021), officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were called to Avoca Street near Cuthill Street, Randwick, after reports of a crash.

Police have been told a Holden sedan was travelling south on Avoca Street when it crashed into the rear of a Toyota Hilux utility, which was stopped at a set of traffic lights.

The Holden driver – a 29-year-old man – and the driver of the Toyota – a 23-year-old male off-duty officer – were both uninjured.

The 29-year-old man allegedly refused a roadside breath test before he was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where he allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.164.

The man was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for a secondary test, before he was returned to Maroubra Police Station, where he was charged with high-range PCA, and breaching the public health order.

The 29-year-old was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday 22 September 2021.
