Police charge man with high-range PCA, assault police - Catherine Fields

A man will appear in court today charged after he allegedly assaulted a police officer following a heavy-vehicle crash in Sydney's south west yesterday.

Just before 6pm (Sunday 7 February 2021), officers from Campbelltown Highway Patrol attended Barry Avenue, Catherine Fields, after reports a Mack truck with a trailer attached had left the road and crashed.

Upon arrival, an officer spoke to the uninjured driver – a 37-year-old man – who was standing nearby. He was subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.

When the male Senior Constable attempted to arrest the man, he allegedly resisted and assaulted the officer. The man allegedly continued to resist, before OC spray was deployed and he was arrested.

The Catherine Fields man was taken to Narellan Police Station, where he allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.154.

He was charged with drive with high-range PCA, assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm and resist officer in execution of duty.

The man was refused bail to appear before Picton Local Court today (Monday 8 February 2021).

The officer suffered bruising and swelling to his face, arms and knee and was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics
