A man has been charged following an investigation into an alleged historical sexual assault in the state's north almost two decades ago.
Earlier this month (February 2022), detectives from Tweed/Byron Police District commenced an investigation following a report that a 14-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man known to him at Hastings Point in December 2003.
Following inquiries, about 7.30am today (Thursday 24 February 2022) officers arrested a 42-year-old man at Marious Street, Tamworth.
He was taken to Tamworth Police Station, where he was charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault – victim under the age of 16 years.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 11 April 2022.
