Police charge man with house burglary in New Town

A 20 year old man from Moonah has been charged with a variety of offences after a burglary was reported in New Town yesterday.

Around 9am, the man was disturbed inside the house before fleeing the area with a large quantity of property including jewellery, cash and electronic devices.

Police located the man nearby where he was arrested and subsequently charged with offences including:

  • Aggravated burglary
  • Stealing
  • Unlawful possession of property
  • Unlawfully possess dangerous article in a public place
  • Being found prepared for the commission of a crime.

All stolen property was located and returned to the owners.

The man was bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

"Police would like to remind all members of the community to ensure they lock their properties and vehicles, especially when not in attendance," said A/Inspector Rick Newman.

"Thieves are often opportunistic, and I urge everyone to be vigilant to prevent being a target of burglary."
