Police charge man with importation of 46kg of 'liquid ecstasy' at Deniliquin

A man has been charged with allegedly importing more than 46kg of 'liquid ecstasy' in the state's south west.

Earlier this month, detectives from Murray River Police District commenced Strike Force Horrie to investigate the importation of prohibited drugs in the Deniliquin area.

Following extensive inquiries, about 10.45am today (Tuesday 21 July 2020), investigators executed a search warrant at a home on Henry Street, Deniliquin.

During a search of the property, investigators located and seized located 84 bottles of a substance contained within four cardboard boxes.

Subsequent testing confirmed the contents as being 1,4-Butanediol, also known as 'GBL', 'Liquid Ecstasy' or 'Fantasy'.

These items were seized and will undergo further forensic examination.

A 32-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Deniliquin Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug – large commercial quantity and two counts of possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and is due to face Deniliquin Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 22 July 2020).

Investigations under Strike Force Horrie are continuing.
