Police Charge Man with Indecent Dealings with Child in Darwin

Detectives from the Northern Territory Police Child Abuse Taskforce have charged a 44-year-old man with a number of offences including Indecent dealing with child under 16 and Gross indecency in public.

It is alleged that the man exposed himself in the presence of children at a restaurant in Stuart Park while attempting to discreetly record the children on his mobile phone.

Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Akers said "NT Police work tirelessly to identify and prosecute offenders who commit these type of crimes involving children.

"This is a timely reminder to speak with your children about how to act if approached by a stranger."

A search warrant was executed at the man's home, with several items seized.

The man was charged with the following offences:

  • Two counts of indecent dealing with child under 16
  • Gross indecency in public
  • Fail to comply with storage requirements
  • Drive unregistered and uninsured

He was remanded in custody and will appear in the Darwin Local Court today.
